Wealth management on the French Riviera:
your questions, my answers.
Independence, fees, how a wealth review works, succession, retirement, tax, business owners' wealth: straight answers to the questions people most often ask before entrusting their wealth to an adviser.
The firm and my independence
What is an independent wealth management adviser?+
An independent wealth management adviser (CGP) analyses your whole situation, including income, tax, property, retirement and succession, then recommends solutions selected from the entire market, without being employed by a banking network. Proximité Patrimoine is registered with ORIAS under number 25 000 701 as a financial investment adviser (CIF) and insurance broker (COA), and is a member of the French national chamber of financial experts.
How are you different from my bank or my insurer?+
Your bank sells its own contracts. I work in open architecture with more than ten partners, including Carmignac, Lazard, Rothschild & Co, Lombard Odier, Pictet, Generali, Suravenir, Spirica and Pareto, with no sales obligation. No commercial target is imposed on me, and you keep the same adviser throughout the relationship.
How are you paid?+
Through advisory fees, fees on the contracts taken out and retrocessions paid by the providers. Everything is stated in euros in the document given to you before signing, in line with MiFID II and IDD requirements. The first meeting is free and without commitment.
What regulatory guarantees do you offer?+
ORIAS registration 25 000 701 (CIF and COA), membership of the French national chamber of financial experts, activity supervised by the AMF. Up-to-date professional liability insurance and financial guarantee, compulsory annual training. Every recommendation is given in writing with a suitability statement.
Working together
How much wealth do I need to work with you?+
There is no published threshold. What matters is that support makes sense: a project to structure, a succession to prepare, tax to optimise, company cash to invest. If your situation does not justify it yet, I tell you at the first meeting rather than asking you to sign.
How does a wealth review work?+
In three stages over four to six weeks: a first conversation of about an hour, full information gathering (tax notices, existing contracts, notarial deeds, pension statements), then the presentation of a written, costed wealth study. Nothing is committed before the engagement letter is signed.
Will I have to transfer all my contracts?+
No. Many engagements start with a review of existing contracts, with real fees calculated over time. Sometimes the conclusion is that nothing needs to change: that is an acceptable result, and it is yours.
Do you work with my notary and my chartered accountant?+
Always, as soon as there is a succession issue, a property company or a business. I prepare the figures and scenarios, they secure the deeds and the accounts. Nobody steps on anyone else's role, and you do not have to pass the information around yourself.
How long does the follow-up last?+
For as long as the relationship makes sense. In practice: at least one annual review, a written periodic assessment report, and a revision at every life event, such as marriage, birth, sale of a business, inheritance, retirement or a property purchase.
Wealth topics
What is the best wrapper for my savings?+
It depends on your time horizon and your tax position. Life assurance remains the most flexible for most situations, the Luxembourg capitalisation contract for larger estates, and the PER once your marginal rate reaches 30% or more. No wrapper is good in itself: it is good in relation to your situation.
How can inheritance tax be reduced on the French Riviera?+
In an area where property values are high, the bill can become confiscatory. The main levers are gifts and gift-partitions, split ownership, a family property company, a split beneficiary clause on life assurance, contributions before age 70, and the Dutreil pact for businesses. The inheritance tax calculator gives a first order of magnitude.
When should I start preparing for retirement?+
As early as possible: a review at 45 costs less than catching up at 60. The first step is a review of rights acquired across all schemes, identifying missing quarters and estimating the net pension. Only then is the supplementary income plan built.
Is tax relief always a good idea?+
No. A tax advantage never makes up for a bad investment: badly located Pinel property, oversold Girardin schemes, illiquid FCPI funds. I start from your real marginal rate and available cash, and rule out any scheme that would tie up your money without solid economic value.
I run a business: what can you do for me?+
Coordinate what is usually handled separately: salary versus dividends, investing surplus cash through a capitalisation contract, holding structure and parent-subsidiary regime, preparing a sale three to five years ahead, contribution-sale under article 150-0 B ter, Madelin protection and Article 83 retirement plans.
